Title: Samsung Honored at BGCA Northeast Youth of the Year Gala Publish Date: 7.6.2017 Category: Education On Monday, June 19, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America held their 2017 Northeast Youth of the Year Gala at Cipriani in New York City.  The fundraising event celebrated the Youth of the Year finalists and the announcements of the winners who will go on to compete for the BGCA National Youth of the Year award.  Samsung was also honored for our continued support of Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Tim Baxter, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics America, accepted the award. Youth of the Year is the Boys and Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program for Club youth. Finalists exemplify the BGCA mission and excel in leadership, service, academic excellence and dedication to living a healthy lifestyle. This comprehensive leadership development program is focused on fostering a new generation of leaders that are productive, caring, responsible citizens. With over 550 guests in attendance, finalists for the award shared their motivational life stories, many of whom displayed triumph, academic success and community leadership in the face of tremendous challenges. Club Alum and American Ballet Theatre principal dancer, Misty Copeland, was also honored as a celebrity ambassador for the Youth of the Year program. “Working together, we’ve helped prepare the next generations of leaders by engaging and empowering young people in STEM education as they look to their futures.” - Tim Baxter, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics America Tim Baxter received the award from Jim Clark, President and CEO of BGCA. “We’re grateful for Samsung’s commitment to our Club kids and teens, enabling more youth to achieve great futures through STEM education,” said Jim Clark. “Together we can foster and develop the next generation of coders, programmers and leaders that will ensure a bright future for our country.” “Since 2014, Samsung has been a proud partner of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America in their mission to enable all young people to reach their full potential,” said Tim Baxter. “Working together, we’ve helped prepare the next generations of leaders by engaging and empowering young people in STEM education as they look to their futures.” Carlos P., from the Boys & Girls Club of Clifton, was named 2017-18 Northeast Youth of the Year, as well as Wynona J. from USAG Fort Meade CYS Services, who was named the 2017-18 Northeast Military Youth of the Year. The evening was a precursor for the National Youth of the Year Gala, held in September in Washington, D.C., where both will contend with other regional winners to be chosen as an ambassador for the organization.
