Title: Samsung Galaxy S10 Series, Note9 and S9 Achieves Security Technical Implementation Approval Publish Date: 8.15.2019 Category: 5G Samsung doubles-down on its commitment to deliver the most secure ecosystem of mobile devices while increasing flexibility and lowering cost for the federal industry Samsung Electronics America, Inc., announces that its flagship products continue to obtain federal certification with the recent approval of the Samsung Galaxy S10 series, Note9 and Galaxy S9 join the Galaxy S8/S8+ and Note8 in the receiving Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) approval necessary for deployment within the Department of Defense (DoD). With the full S10 series approved, including the S10 5G, this marks the first 5G device to receive STIG approval for the federal government that will allow the federal workforce to take advantage of 5G-enabled environments. “This latest STIG approval is another example of Samsung’s commitment to bringing the most secure technology to the federal market,” says Taher Behbehani, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Mobile B2B Division, Samsung Electronics America. “Well before, and after a device is launched, we work with the government and offer test devices, so they can go through a very rigorous certification process allowing the U.S. government to purchase our devices with confidence.” Additionally, STIG approval ensures the maximum protection for sensitive military data and improves the security of DoD information systems. In addition to the Galaxy S9 and S10 series, Samsung’s defense-grade security solution, Samsung Knox meets STIG requirements when the appropriate APIs are applied to lock down the device. To achieve this approval, Samsung worked in lock step with standards bodies to ensure that its devices meet the needs of the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP), through the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation as set by the Defense Information Security Agency (DISA). Furthermore, all of Samsung’s flagship devices are designed to meet the standards required by stringent certifications such as Common Criteria and Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) Cryptographic programs implemented by NIAP. Samsung’s latest advancements represent a corporate strategy laser focused on helping federal IT leaders unlock new business and mission-critical mobile applications that have the power to transform operations by harnessing emerging technologies including artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). It is these secure, high-bandwidth and low-latency 5G-enabled capabilities that will serve as the platform for continued innovation as agencies drive forward IT modernization efforts aimed at enabling a more data-driven, effective and efficient government. “In the past, federal agencies haven’t been able to enjoy a wide selection of tailored mobile solutions like they do today,” said Chris Balcik, Vice President of Federal, Samsung Electronics America. “The recent launch of the Galaxy S10 5G coupled with growth of 5G networks has unlocked a new era in federal use cases. From enabling ‘smart’ connectivity on military bases to aid mission coordinating and tactical execution, we are about to witness how the entire landscape will change.” Samsung is currently working to ensure the Galaxy S10/S10+ and S10 5G are approved and added to the Department of Defense Information Network Approved Products List (DoDIN APL). The device is now available for evaluation by all government and defense mobility programs.
