Title: Samsung Donates $250,000 to Hurricane Florence Relief Groups Publish Date: 9.26.2018 Category: Communities RIDGEFIELD, N.J. – Samsung Electronics America, Inc. announced its plan to donate $250,000 to relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Florence. Samsung’s Corporate Citizenship team will provide cash funds to three food banks across the Carolinas that are working tirelessly to provide for the communities most affected by the storm. These donations are intended to help some of the Carolina’s most effective and hard-hit food relief organizations to sustain their operations and serve the expanded population in need as a result of Hurricane Florence. These donations include: $100,000 to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, a community organization centered in the heavily impacted areas of Wilmington, NC, and New Bern, NC. $100,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, an organization spanning 19 counties in North Carolina and five in South Carolina. $50,000 to Harvest Hope Food Bank, a current partner of SEA and Samsung Electronics Home Appliance (SEHA) based in South Carolina. “We have employees, customers, business partners and community partners who have been tremendously affected by this storm and the continued flooding in the Carolinas,” said Ann Woo, Senior Director of Corporate Citizenship for Samsung Electronics America. “We know that in the toughest of times, a warm meal and the certainty that families and children will have enough to eat is the first step to recovery.” With employees across the Carolinas and facilities in Huntersville, North Carolina and Simpsonville, South Carolina, along with employees at Samsung Electronics Home Appliance in Newberry, South Carolina, Hurricane Florence affected many of Samsung’s U.S. employees. These direct donations will go towards helping the communities where we live and work get back on their feet. “With several locations across the Carolinas, including a manufacturing plant in Newberry, SC, we thrive when our communities thrive, and we are deeply concerned for their well-being when natural disasters upend lives,” said Woo. “These donations are a mark of Samsung’s commitment to our employees and neighbors both now and through the rebuilding process.” Samsung’s contributions to local communities come to life through its ‘Samsung Gives’ philanthropic programming. From its Annual Charity Gala, education-based Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest, Veteran Support and partner programming with Covenant House and Junior Achievement, Samsung makes a definitive impact in the communities it calls home.
