Title: Climate Week Panel: Fashion & Technology – Designing for Sustainable Change Publish Date: 9.28.2022 Category: Sustainability In the worlds of both fashion and technology, overconsumption, overproduction, and waste are issues that are contributing to global climate change. But some brands large and small are challenging the status quo and taking bold action – from sustainable sourcing and responsible recycling to creative upcycling and waste management. At Samsung, we are committed to making everyday changes that have a meaningful impact on the environment. On average, we collect and recycle 100 million pounds of e-waste per year in the U.S. alone – and that is only 10% of what we collect and recycle globally. That’s like recycling the weight of five Eiffel Towers. On Tuesday, September 20, Samsung convened an insightful panel during Climate Week at Samsung 837, our flagship experience center located in New York City’s Meatpacking District that is powered by 100% renewable energy. The panel featured sustainability upcycled designers, advocates, and leaders in both fashion and technology to talk about how they and their brands are driving real change. Among the panelists were Brooklyn-based fashion designer and sustainability advocate, Nicole McLaughlin; Orlando-based fashion designer, Paige Sechrist; New York-based eco-conscious fashion designer, Tracy Garcia; NYC Fair Trade Coalition Chair, Andrea Reyes; and Samsung Electronics America Head of Corporate Sustainability, Mark Newton. Hear about their views on ways to facilitate a sustainable design process, how to compel consumers to buy upcycled and recycled products, and how they balance sustainability with scale. https://youtu.be/NAw2TZSdzOM
